Dave Underhill
Dave retired from CERN in 2010 and a couple of years later took over the Presidency of the Swiss Croquet Association with a view to further developing the sport in Switzerland and Europe. BUT has seen another version of the sport on the horizon…….
… Having been treated to a demonstration of the Japanese version of croquet by an Australian passing through Geneva, Alex Park; Dave decided that the game of GATEBALL was for him. He organized a Friendship Tournament in Geneva in 2013, with the participation of Japanese, Chinese and Indonesian teams to demonstrate the sport to friends from both near and far.
At a dinner party at his home early in 2014, Dave introduced his neighbours to the sport with a demonstration in the basement, and by September was leading out his Swiss team at the 2014 World Gateball Championship in Japan. Switzerland becoming the very first European country to be represented at these World Gateball Championships.
He has competed in the Thai Gateball Championships on two occasions together with his fellow Gateball promoters, Bernard Thys, Keiichj Imagawa, and this year, 2016, with daughter, Nina. He collaborated with his croquet friends in Ripon, to initiate the UK Gateball Championship held annually since 2016.
