Andrew Cowing

 

Andrew started playing croquet at Cheltenham Croquet Club in 1995 benefitting from the excellent coaching and advice given by former MacRobertson Shield players and the experiences of major champions at the club. At club level he won almost everything from the Rabbits to handicap, level, advanced play, one ball and golf croquet tournaments. In 1997 he was awarded the Apps Memorial Bowl for the most improved male player (AC) and in 1998 won the  Selectors Cup. He also represented both Gloucestershire and Middlesex in the AC intercounties.

 

Andrew enjoyed playing in Ireland where he reached the semi-finals of the Irish Doubles Championship in 1998 with Sarah Burrow and got a taste for top level golf croquet. He represented the CA against both Ireland and Switzerland, where he later lived and represented Switzerland, against the CA and in the 2002 European (AC) Championships in Jersey and won the Swiss Golf Croquet Championship in 2004.

 

After taking a break from croquet whilst raising a young family in The Netherlands, Andrew returned to England (and Cheltenham) in 2013 and started to win both GC and AC club tournaments. He won the 2014 Sussex Open Golf Croquet Championship and played in the 2014 Ascot Cup. He has been selected to represent England in the 2015 European Golf Croquet Championships at Budleigh Salterton.

 

Andrew lives in Duntisbourne Abbots, near Cirencester with his wife Helen and children Maria & Ronan and is a passionate Artist (painting in oils and pastels) and lover of fine wines.
